Dance Studio

Dance Studio is a room in which dancers practice. The moniker is typically used to illustrate a space that has either been designed or furnished for the purpose.

A Dance Studio usually incorporates an even floor top or, if used for tap dancing, by a hardwood floor. The smooth vinyl floor covering, also known as a performance surface and commonly called "marley", is generally not attached permanently to the unrevealed floor and can be rolled up and carried to venues if needed.

In many cases the floor is pliable, meaning the construction of the floor provides a level of flexibility to absorb the impact of intensive dance exercise, like jumping. This is considered vital to assist good health and safety.

Other regular features of a  Dance Studio include a barre, which can be either secured to the wall or be a standalone move-able device that is waist height and used as a means of buttress. As music is an essential part of dance, nearly all dance studios have a sound system for playing music via a Bluetooth enabled device; a remote control is essential for the instructor to repeat music as needed. In purpose-built dance studios, it is typical for at least one wall to be covered by floor to ceiling mirrors, which are used by dancers to see their body position and alignment. Other essentials in any  Dance Studio are a table for teacher notebooks and other instructional materials.

Kids Dance Classes How to chose the best Kids Dance Classes

Whether it's tap, ballet, modern, jazz, hip-hop or African, dance class.

remain popular all around the U.S. Though girls have traditionally been the participants in dance classes, boys are increasingly interested in the many aspects and benefits of dance. The cardiovascular and strength training benefits that go hand-in-hand with dance training (at various skill levels) make dance as much of a workout as any sport. Don't overlook the potential of dance class to help your child grow, exercise, learn, and socialize.?Long gone are the days of pink tutus and classical music (though those are wonderful and you still have them if you want!).?Ethnic dance with exciting music, colorful costumes, and really local, neighborhood impact is burgeoning everywhere.

What Are The Benefits?

Television programs such as "So You Think You Can Dance" and "Dancing with the Stars" have done wonders to increase the popularity of and appreciation for dance. Besides creating a "cool factor," dance provides children with physical benefits such as, general fitness, balance and coordination, discipline, and strength-training. Kids Dance Classes can be great for a child's frame of mind too. It?is often used therapeutically to treat a wide variety of physical and mental health issues.

Dance Class Options

Here is a list of some of the more popular forms of Kids Dance Classes and what to expect with each:

Ballet: This technical and beautiful form of dance has evolved with Italian, Russian and French influences. Expect your child (age 3 or older) to start ballet in a fun, recreational way. Keep in mind that ballet becomes more challenging and demanding as dancers improve. Ballet allows children to learn specific moves and encourages discipline in body and mind. Check with the dance school or teacher about how the instruction is given and what is expected of the students.

Ballet classes vary widely in style and discipline. Classes run by professional ballet companies tend to be more formal and structured than those run by local community venues. They can also be quite a bit more expensive and require longer commitment.

One advantage of taking ballet class run by a professional company is that the teacher and the teaching methods must meet the company's standards for teaching technique and assessing skill level of students. Taking a class at a community venue or at your child's school can be a great way to try ballet, without taking on a major commitment. But, both types of classes have their advantages and provide your child with exercise and fun.

Jazz: Children can begin taking jazz classes as early as age 5, but be aware that some of the moves can be complicated and kids may get frustrated if they can't keep up. Jazz classes are taught by professional dance companies as well as through community venues and school.?In some cases, there are dance prerequisites students must have in order to take jazz lessons these will vary according to the dance school and level of jazz class. Don't be frustrated by the prerequisites that might be in place for any given dance class they're usually in place to protect your child from injury and to allow for a better teaching and learning experience in the class.

Tap: Born in America in the 19th century, tap dancing was named for the sound that tap dancers' shoes make when the shoe's metal plate claps the stage. Tap also has Scottish, Irish, and African influences. Kids can get involved with this exciting form of Kids Dance Classes as early as 3 years old, but classes for young children should remain fun and improvisational. Like most forms of dance, tap becomes more rigorous and demanding as children grow and improve.

Latin: This genre encompasses dance styles like the cha-cha, rumba, salsa, and the mambo. Classes may be difficult for very young children, but kids aged 7 and up may be coordinated and motivated enough to take part in Latin dance. Check out Mad Hot Ballroom, a wonderful documentary about inner city kids from New York learning how to ballroom dance as part of their physical education classes.? They go on to compete in a regional dance contest.?Once you watch this you'll be signing up for lessons yourself!?Latin dance is terrific exercise and the cultural appreciation of music and social interaction can have a positive influence kids.

African: African dance originates from a wide range of African social and religious traditions. Students studying this dance genre will be introduced to African songs, music and drumming during classes. Kids of any age may get involved as there are a variety of levels and types of African dancing to choose from.

Hip hop: Emerging in America in the 1970s, hip-hop dance celebrates urban music and encompasses movements, expressions and style from African-Americans and Latin-Americans. Any child or adult can get involved in hip-hop dance classes although particular moves (like break dancing) can be extremely challenging.

Interesting facts about Children Ballet Classes: Facts & Ideas

  • Ballet began 500 years ago in Italy as a form of entertainment in the kings courts.
  • The first full-scale ballet was staged in Paris on 15th October, 1581.
  • The word Ballet comes from the word “dance” in Latin.
  • There are four levels of dancers in a ballet company. At the bottom is the largest group, called the ‘corps de ballet’. Next are the ‘corphees’ who lead the corps de ballet and sometimes dance the smaller parts. Then there are the ‘soloists’ who dance alone. And at the top are the ‘principals’ who dance the lead roles.
  • Pointe shoes are handmade. Their toe boxes are painted or "blocked" with glue, then baked in ovens to stiffen and strengthen them. Some professional dancers can go through 20 pairs of ballet shoes a week; in fact, some can wear out a pair of pointe shoes in one hour. On average, England's Royal Ballet troupe goes through 15,000 pairs of pointe shoes a year!
  • Before a ballet class you rub ‘rosin’ on your shoes to stop them from slipping. This is a yellow powdered crystal that comes from pine trees and is the same substance that cellists, bassists and violinists rub on their bows to improve their instruments’ sound.
  • A prima ballerina can complete 32 fouette turns (a complicated turn where they whip their leg around), while staying in exactly the same spot on the floor. After the turns, her pointe shoe tip is hot to touch and it is so worn out that it is only then used in rehearsals.

African Dance Studio

african_dance

African Dance Studio can legitimately be considered the oldest form of choreography in the world and the form has spread far beyond to thrill audiences around the world.

Characteristics of Sub-Saharan African Dance

There are essential ways that African dance is different than most Western forms. The most obvious is the lack of partnered dancing Instead, most of the dances are group performances separated by gender. The men dance for the women and vice versa, with all ages mingling or having their own dance.

African Drumming: the Heartbeat of the Tribe

A primary characteristic of African Dance Studio styles is the presence of drumming. However, it is also inextricably entwined with the art of dance; most African villages would never have drumming without dancing at the same time. A wide variety of instruments are used, from drums such as the djembe as well as other percussion instruments such as the shakera, a gourd with a net of tiny shells or stones loosely wrapped around it.

African Movement

One of the most striking parts of traditional African Dance Studio is the polyrhythmic nature of the movement. African dancers in African Dance Studio often are able to isolate particular parts of their body and move them to different parts of the rhythm, with two or three different beats going on simultaneously in the dancer's body. This fine motor control is often complemented by larger movements such as kicks, leaps, and wide and rapid swings of the arms. In the Adumu dance of the Masai, for example, the men show how high they can jump in the center of a circle while their fellow warriors encourage them. In contrast, the Mohobelo dance of the Sotho includes movements on all levels including writhing on the ground.

Preserving Culture and Spreading Knowledge

While African dance is alive and well in the villages below the Sahara to the tip of Cape Horn, it has also been embraced by other cultures such as African-Americans in the U.S. and Canada. Whether watching a breathtaking performance or taking the leap to learn at a workshop taught by a master teacher, there is something from the dance forms of African Dance Studio for anyone to enjoy.

Good Dance Studios

How to Choose a Dance Studio

When you decide that you or your child wants to learn to dance, find a dance studio that specializes in the type and form of dancing that you are most interested in. Classical ballet is the most formal of the ballet styles; it adheres to traditional ballet technique. There are variations relating to area of origin, such as Russian ballet, French ballet, and Italian ballet. Avoid studios that have limited or no ballet options, as ballet is the foundation of all other dance styles, and if your child is strong in ballet he or she will excel in other dance forms. Other types of dance that may interest you include: Modern, Contemporary, Jazz, Tap, Hip-Hop, Acrobatics, Lyrical, or even Irish Step. Modern, Jazz, and Tap are the most common styles, and are the styles that your child should have at least a year in to be called a well-rounded dancer.

Think about what you are looking for in your Good Dance Studios. Are you training to be a professional dancer? Are you trying to lose weight? Are you dancing for fun? It is important that if you are serious about dance that you don't get stuck in recreation oriented classes. At the same time, joining a difficult class if that isn't what you want can lessen your enjoyment. Also, people who start dance just to lose weight often end up disliking the class. If all you want to do is lose weight instead of dancing because you like to, reconsider your choices.

Check out the qualifications of the teachers. Many excellent dancers do not make good teachers. Your teacher does not need to be a great dancer, but needs to be knowledgeable enough to be able to instruct people with different body-types, abilities, and learning styles. A teacher with an impressive dance resume may not know how to describe movement for children or beginners.

Talk to local dancers you know. See what they have to say about the dance studios. Dancers have usually attended more than one Good Dance Studios in their lives, if they've been dancing since they were young, and they will probably have a suggestion. They will know who to avoid, too. Image titled Achieve Short Term Goals Step 94 Make a decision on how far you are willing to commute. Do you want to be able to walk there? Is driving for 30 minutes going to be okay? Is there a convenient train or bus?

Ask if you can sit and watch for a while. Do not be upset if visitors are not allowed, though, as this can disrupt class. Some studios offer 'open classes' designed to give future students a feel for the rigor of the instruction. Be wary of these; they are usually stiff and nerve-wracking and can give students the wrong impression of a studio. You won't really be able to judge whether you like or dislike the studio until your child has taken a few classes with a few different teachers. Teachers should give positive reinforcements to students and be able to point out muscle alignments to improve technique. It is normal for schools to use older students to demonstrate to help train the younger ones.

Call (or email) the studio. Depending on your goals (fun, improvement...) you may not be willing to alter your schedule a lot to include classes. Be sure you explain to the owner of the studio when you could take class, as well as your skill level and the level of intensity you are considering. He or she will probably have a schedule, but the names of the classes can be confusing. Sometimes intermediate classes are classified as advanced, just to separate them from an even more intermediate class. Also, Intensive options are often offered, which can be confusing as well.

Narrow down your list by class times and varieties, and go to the studios still on your list to watch a class. Usually, you can participate in a class without paying if you ask. Don't be put off by the exterior of Good Dance Studios. Usually, the outsides are really, really trashy, but often the inside will be brightly painted and welcoming. Even if the inside is trashy, don't assume the instruction will be bad. Some of the best studios invest as much as they can in making an excellent program instead of a pretty waiting area.

Find out the class size. If you want individual attention, don't go to a school with 15-20 dancers. If you don't want a lot of attention, which would actually be bad, go to one with 15+ dancers.

Consider how affordable the studio is. Do they charge a little extra each month for costumes, or charge separately? Do your research and figure out what would be a reasonable price to pay.

Choose your favorite!

Go and visit the studio, feel the "vibe". Do the teachers use calm voices when teaching, or do you hear yelling? Watch the little ones, do they look like they like being there, this is a good indicator of how happy any age dancer will be there!

BEGINNER DANCE CLASSES FOR ADULTS

We offer hip hop and street Dance Classes for that person who has always wanted to try a dance class but perhaps feels too intimidated to step into a studio. This is a low light, judgement-free space for adults that equips you with practical skills for your next dance floor encounter.

The premise for our success. We decided to create beginner Dance Classes for adults, but more specifically, for the kind of people who are scared of dance class.

This is a proper hip hop and street dance class. This part is important to us. We see so many dance classes out there for adults, we wanted to offer something that was grounded in proper hip hop and street style training, not another fitness gimmick. When you take Dance Classes with us you are learning about the foundations of dance styles that were originated out of African-American culture from streets around the world. From true Jamaican dancehall to core fundamentals. The list goes on. We give you a dance class and a contextual dance education. You get to learn the way a professional dancer would learn but in an accessible beginner’s context.

Our beginner Dance Classes follow a straight-forward format. Warm up with some moves, stretch a little, learn some party dances and have a solid dance by stringing together what you’ve learnt in a combo. There’s no complex choreography to deluge your brain. All the stuff you learn in class will be used on the dance floor, in your bedroom, while waiting for your kettle to boil, at the bus stop and in most shopping aisles.

Lyrical Dance Class Boca Raton

Lyrical dance is a fusion of ballet and jazz dance techniques.

Lyrical Dance Class Boca Raton challenges choreographers and dancers to use motion to interpret music and express emotion. A lyrical dancer's movements attempt to show the meaning of the music. Lyrical jazz is a very passionate and emotional dance style. It portrays certain emotions such as love, and tells a story through every movement made.

Lyrical dance has a relatively recent history and a genesis based on the coming together of ballet with rock/folk/pop/alternative music and a variety of jazz dance styles and modern dance. (To a much lesser degree, punk and swing styles have also been a minor influence.) It is mainly performed to music with lyrics, and the song's lyrics are a driving force and key inspiration for the movement. Choreography is often emotional, gripping, and exquisitely delicate, all at the same time.

Lyrical dance gained its name not because the lyrics of a song are indeed sometimes highlighted over the rhythm, but because of the meaning of the word lyrical: having a poetic, expressive quality; musical; characterized by or expressing spontaneous, direct feeling; expressing deep personal emotions or observation; highly rhapsodic or enthusiastic. Lyrical Dance Class Boca Raton is expressive, subtle and dynamic, expressing emotions through movement. It is a combination of intricate, highly technical, and pedestrian/naturalistic moves.

Lyrical dance is often choreographed to a song about freedom, of releasing a sad emotion, or of overcoming obstacles, but can be choreographed to any human emotion-related song. Depending on the given song and choreography, a lyrical piece may or may not be graceful, but will always be expressive and unpredictable, particularly in comparison to ballet and other jazz pieces which may have a more presentational quality.

A solid, ballet-based technique is an essential component of this advanced style of dance, as is a facility with various other forms of jazz, some contemporary/modern dance, and proper placement and bodily alignment.

Lyrical choreography is often peppered with intentionally pedestrian moves, amid the more challenging movements, to create a simultaneously organic and dramatic feel. Lyrical is based around choreography and the interpretation of the music. Routines are based around feeling and emotion and, though technique is crucial, spirit generally tells where the dance will go.

Although lyrical is stereotypically choreographed to music that is slow or downbeat, melodic and sweet-sounding, it is a very broad form of dance including many dynamic, fast-paced and sometimes thrashy pieces. Upbeat, aggressive styles of music are used frequently. Music can be of any genre; pop, rock, and even hip hop/R&B styles, are popular for choreographing. Pop selections, including soulful, powerful songs by emerging artists, are often used in Lyrical Dance Class Boca Raton.
